The Elder Futhark is the most commonly used rune alphabet, it has 24 runes (the word ‘rune’ meaning whisper or secret), each with its own inner meanings, energy and associations. Journeys with the Elder Futharkis a series of recorded pathworkings which allow you to experience the energies of each rune first hand, immersing yourself in their meanings and lore rather than trying to learn them by rote. A rune is a gateway, a key, a unique resonance that of contains and transmits a wealth of knowledge, wisdom, lore and power. The rune journeys are designed to help you building your own ‘kennings’ (your own innate knowledge of the runes) by immersing you in the experience of the rune. Yes, the specific correspondences and meanings behind a rune are important (and these are given in the accompanying leaflet with your download), but their potential is much more rich and vibrant than any list can effectively communicate. Draw on the healing powers of Uruz, the protection of Thurisaz, the transformative strength and endurance of Eihwaz.

These journeys will form a strong foundations for further work with the runes, allowing you to draw on their energy for divination, healing and magic. Whether you are completely new to the runes, or are looking for a more powerful experience than can be conveyed through books, these journeys will help you develop and grow your relationship with the runes.

The journeys are available in three sets known as Aettir (meaning families). Each download contains eight rune journeys as well as a meditation to safely set up your space and one to close your space once you have finished. You can work through the runes in order or just pick one that you feel drawn to.

Journeys with the Elder Futhark – First Aett

The First Aett (meaning ‘family’) is the first of three sets of eight runes making up the Elder Futhark. Your download includes a track for you to set up sacred space to work in; a track to close down the space once you have finished; and eight journeys of between ten and twenty minutes each taking you to encounter the following runes:

Fehu – the rune of wealth, life force and sensuality
Uruz – the rune of strength, stability, endurance and healing
Thurisaz – the rune of the giant, the thorn, the passions and the emotions
Ansuz – the rune of communication, inspiration and frenzy
Raidho – the rune of the chariot, the journey and the rider
Kenaz – the rune of creativity, enlightenment and transformation
Gebo – the rune of the gift, exchange, oath-making and trust
Wunjo – the rune of family, kin and joy

A PDF is provided with the download taking you through what you will need to do and giving some of the basic correspondences for the runes to help you relate your journeys to the traditional rune meanings.

The Second Aett (meaning ‘family’) is the second of three sets of eight runes making up the Elder Futhark. Eihwaz – the rune of death, transformation, the World Tree, eternal life, and inner strength
Perthro – the rune of mysteries, fate, magic, and the flow of Wyrd
Algiz – the rune of protection, the swan, the elk and the rainbow bridge
Sowilo – the rune of the sun, victory and the guiding star

Teiwaz – the rune of truth, justice and right action

Laguz – the rune of water, emotion, magical power and the depths
Inguz – the rune of the seed, potential, growth and the ‘green man’
Othala – the rune of inheritance, ancestry, homeland and homestead
Dagaz – the rune of daylight, enlightenment, balance, the liminal and sudden change
